The Conceptual Foundations That Were

When I attended my first annual conference of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) as a graduate student, my advisor, Carolyn Callahan, told my cohort that we needed to join at least two divisions/networks and become involved in their work. I chose Conceptual Foundations and Research and Evaluation. Eventually, as I grew as a scholar and professor, I chaired both networks.
But my first role was working on the Conceptual Foundations newsletter. At one time, the networks were semi-autonomous with their own budgets, projects, and publications, which were sent directly to members by the officers. There were understandable business reasons for the NAGC national office taking more centralized control of the money and the messaging. But a bit of charm was lost.
I do not have every newsletter that I helped create during that time, but I do have a few. They are worth checking out if only for the moment of history they represent.
